Hi there, I'm Karina!

Let me ask you a question...

Karina-3.jpg

Are you a flute student who wants nothing more than to be the best you can be?

I was too.

Are you a parent, a #1 fan of a young flutist, and don't have a background in music?

Mine were too.

I understand because this was my life too.

This is where I come in.

My name is Karina Eijo, and I work with young flutists who want to become better musicians and are sick and tired of struggling alone (been there, done that, bought the t-shirt).

I remind them that they are capable of doing anything that they set their minds to, and I give them the tools to learn how to practice so that they can be the flute divas or the flute bosses they deserve to be!

Okay, so here's the short version:

Karina-2.jpg

I always grew up with music in my life, so it was like destiny when I started playing the flute at 11 years old. I didn't have access to consistent private lessons until I started college and in high school, I used every bit of birthday and Christmas money to be able to afford lessons during that time.

Fast forward to 2015, I graduated Cum Laude from the University of Florida at New World School of the Arts with a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance. During my time there, I studied with Suzan Degooyer, Melanie Lançon, and Rene Miska (Three teachers during my undergrad? Yes, long story for another time). Throughout my time in college, I realized that even though I wanted to teach, it was super important to me to be an active performer and the best flutist that I can be.

In my mind, the best path forward was to audition for grad school, prepare as much as I could for performing, and put myself on the path to be an active performer and a flute professor. Sometimes though, one can have so many plans and life can take you on a completely different path. I tried auditioning for grad school and was heartbroken when I didn't get into a single program.

During the 2.5 years that I took between my degrees, I taught at a non-profit organization and worked at a 9-5 job to be able to save up for more application fees, transcripts, and traveling to auditions. After many auditions, I made the decision to go to grad school at Austin Peay State University to study with Dr. Lisa Wolynec.

Honestly, it was the best decision that I've ever made.

Today, I am building a flute studio of young flutists who want, more than anything, to be the best that they can be.
